Welcome to my astronomy journal! My name is Brittney, and I am a member of the Atlanta Astronomy Club’s Charlie Elliott Chapter, as well as a member of STELA – an online astronomy group for women. I created this website as a place to host my observation logs and images as I make my way through the various programs offered by the Astronomical League.
In 2012, I bought my first telescope – a Celestron AstroMaster 114 EQ. I had no idea how to use it, but I set it up outside after reading the manual and turned my sights to the moon. It was beautiful and I couldn’t believe all the detail I could see. I wanted to capture it and show people, so I took out my phone and held it up to the eyepiece for a picture. A couple of nights later I had found Saturn, and I was hooked for life after that.
After years of casually observing the skies and fumbling around with telescopes, something finally clicked. Maybe it was all the free time I had in 2020, but I finally started to understand how to use my telescopes and imaging equipment the way they were meant to be used. I also developed a love for solar system astronomy and spent my time learning the ins and outs of planetary, lunar, and solar imaging.
While my focus is heavily on solar system astronomy and imaging (thanks to my living in Atlanta – boo Bortle 8!), my ultimate goal is to become a Master Observer. By completing these programs, I hope to become a well-rounded amateur astronomer and astrophotographer.
